Soon I will be getting a 95 Ranger with a 3.blow and want the 4.oh. AND YES I SEARCHED! I could not really find much on it? Is this swap similar to the 2.9 to 4.0 swap? more complicated? I know the trannys dont bolt up, and I need a new exhaust. Can someone elaborate on this more? :icon_confused:

Everything will be different. You will have to change wiring harnesses and PCMs. Not to sure on exhaust, but if you have a parts truck of the same year it shouldn't be bad. If you don't have a parts truck, get everything you can in parts from the same year, so you're not splicing huge sections of wiring harness. If you get all the right stuff, it can be relativley plug-and-play.

Engine, Trans, exhaust, MAF, wiring harness, engine computer, and possibly radiator. That's a lot of work for just a few more lb-ft of torque!
You'd have to switch the same pieces to put a 5.0 in, so you might as well go big.
