95-06 Headlight Switch bulb

Anyone know where to find a replacement? I went to the local dealer and the guy told me that since my (95) truck is old, they probably don't make the bulb anymore. BULLSH*^, they used the same switch all the way til 06. I guess he was too lazy to look it up.
I've been having trouble looking for it everywhere else. LED's are not an option since I hate the look they put out. Anyone know of an online store that sells them? Just in case no one knows what I'm talking about, it is a small light bulb with a long plastic housing.

u dont like em, but LEDs are your only option, or dig the yunkyard for a switch just for the bulb, i have a green LEd in mine and it doesnt look that bad, not the exact green as the dash, but looks good

Mine's LED now. And you can't just replace the bulb....gotta order the entire switch from ford. That's about a $75 switch.....so that told me to LED it. A replacement bulb does not exist.

You can get past the light output/look of the led's by sanding the dome down, and using low output leds.

Go to a junkyard and start going crazy pulling those bulbs and hope to find ONE that works. Those bulbs are regularly burnt out. Hell, I didn't even know it lit up til I drove a brand spanking new one....and I bought my 01 in 01!


FYI, ford used the same switch from 95-07...why they'd say you can't replace it, idk.

They were probably too lazy to look it up.

I don't like the look of LED, but I guess it's the only option. In my local JYs, there are tons of Explorers, the only problem is climbing over other cars to reach them and un-assembling the dash.

What type of LED should I replace the existing bulb with? I found some LEDs at Radio Shack and most of the LEDs looked as if the tails were too short to wrap around the black plastic housing. Where did you guys buy yours?

The leads are JUST long enough to do it I believe. If you go radioshack for your LED's, they are low power, not very bright units, which would be perfect for your tastes I believe. I went with 13000mcd LED's off ebay from seller BestHongKong....got like 200 for $10. oh.. 5mm leds btw. Don't forget a resister for 12v load.

I believe it's the same switch that's used in the Gen 2 Taurus, and if it is, I bought a bulb at Napa. Maybe a 74?

74 is a wedge bulb...these are not wedge bulbs...

I had to replace a ton of light bulbs in my sister's Taurus, so it's a little hazy what went where. I know I had some 74's that needed replacement, and some neowedge bulbs ala that one. I got replacements here:

not even close, the plastic base is thinner and larger, also the bulb is way more small,
almost like LED size, here is a different thread about the same issue

Similar, but alot different....Black one is the headlight, grey one is the 4x4 switch...
