Ive got a 94 toyota truck with the 2re 4 cyl 5 speed manual the engine is surging from low to high rpms when sitting idling or when i push in the clutch or come to a stop anyone knows what the might be let me know

Yeah it could be a lot of problems. Toyota's have a limp mode that when the idle is too high the truck surges. First, do the cheap and easy thing. Try turning the idle screw down. Its on the throttle body and takes a flat head screw driver. If that doesn't work post back.

sounds almost like a vacuum leak.map sensors give that exact symptom.I just don't remember if that year had a map sensor. If I can find my old manual I will look and post back here.

Seriously I love toyotas as much as i love Rangers and Diesel powered anything but these guys can tell you every little detail about your truck

check your hi idle for when the ac is on have seen them do that if it is too hi

Well whatever it was it pissed me off i sold it for $500 bucks and pulled the ranger out of the garage. I usually dont run her in the winter but at least she doesnt sound like a cat coughing up a fur ball. Ive got an 88 ranger 2.9 5 speed extended cab with the dual tanks in it.
