The a4ld is not wanting to go into drive right away.it a 94 xplorer.
I just bought a 91 with the same trans.
After reading the 94:has electronic OD lock up.I was wondering if the 91 is going to work in the 94?

Yes, it will, both years had dual solenoids and 3 wire control plug

1988 is when A4LD went from single to dual solenoid
Single just had TCC, torque converter lock up solenoid, 2 wire connector
Dual had TCC and 3/4 shift solenoid, OD control, 3 wire connector

I ask because they are saying the tech section that in 93 and a half is when they went to the overdrive electric lock up
But if it works it works

Might be a mis-print, 1988.5 was approx. when Ford added the 2nd solenoid for 3/4 shift
1989 and up should all have the 3 wire connector, 1988 could be either 2 or 3 wire

But look at the connector, 3 wire is what you need

here is an A4LD reference page picture: http://www.explorerforum.com/photopost/data/503/A4LD_specification_chart_from_Transgo_.JPG

It also has the OHM reading you should get, 20-30 OHMs, so you can test the solenoids before installing trans, always a good idea

I'm guessing I'll want to use torque converter from the trans I'll be swaping in?
I still need to read the link above.

You want to keep cross contamination to a minimum. If the previous trans had problems definitely flush the lines and the rad very well. New rad if funds allow.
