I aquired a 1994 Ford Ranfer XLT 2.3L Ranger with Manual Trans. when my wifes father passed away. The truck sat for 4-5 years due to her father having a stroke and not being able to drive anymore. ive started working on truck myself to get running to drive so we will have 2 vehicles. ive replaced the oil and filter, Air filter, Fuel Filter, Spark plug (just plugs). when i began working on truck i founds the fuel pump was not comingon and had no fuel pressure. i sprayed starting fluid into intake and it started for a few seconds and stop prior to changing the pump. i also syphoned old gas out of tank and replaced with fresh 89 octane gas. if truck sits for a bit I'll try to start it and first turn of key it will act as if its going to start then it wont do anything but turnover. i dont want to just throw parts and $ at it and hope i fix it. does anyone have any Suggestions? starting to get frustrated!

When you turn on the key you should hear the Fuel Pump run for 2 seconds, only 2 seconds, but you can turn the key off and on as much as you want to confirm it is running for those 2 seconds.

It isn't quiet, lol

If it doesn't run or doesn't do it every time then check the Fuel Pump Relay.
It is in the engine fuse box, FP Relay.
This will "click" closed when key is turned on and then "click" open after 2 seconds, computer runs this.
When engine RPMs get above 400(engine starts) computer will close relay and fuel pump will stay running until you shut off engine, or RPMs fall below 400, it is a safety feature, in case of an accident electric fuel pump won't just keep pumping fuel out on the ground, a bad thing :)

If you add fuel manually to the intake does it still start up and die?

The injectors might be gummed up. Clean them really good, you might get away with putting some seafoam in the gas tank / fuel line.
