'94 Ranger Fuel Pressure

Have a '94 Ranger extended cab with the 4.0.

Three times now, the truck has shut off while driving and not restarted.

Confirmed good compression and spark.

No fuel pressure at the rail. Changed fuel filter, fires up and runs for a few weeks.

Happens again. Changed the fuel filter and runs for a few weeks.

Happens a third time. Change the fuel filter and runs.

This time I pulled the bed off, drained the fuel tank and found a surprisingly clean tank and relatively new Delphi fuel pump (strainer looked pretty good) the previous owner installed just before I bought it two years ago. They were throwing money at a no run situation that I found to be a bad connection at the electronic ignition module...

Any ideas on what's happening with the fuel issue?

It would be good to check fuel pressure - resting and running. Also, take the vacuum line off the fuel pressure regulator and see if it smells like gas. There should be no gas on the vacuum side of the regulator.since the regulator runs off vacuum, vacuum leaks will also affect pressure.

Weak pump? Doesn't have enough umph to push through even a slightly dirty filter?

Bad filters? Blowing apart on the inside and clogging themselves?

Directional filters installed the wrong way?

Just some ideas...
