So I'm installing the clutch and happened to break a bolt off in the flywheel....now I'm down to 4 bolts instead of 6....is 4 bolts enough to hold the clutch up without any problems?

Maybe but are you willing to risk it?

I.kinda have to for its my only vehicle .....I torqued down the bolts .....I was turning the engine over with the bolt so I'm hoping it stays on

I wouldn't do it myself, but I make a point to have a spare vehicle so that I don't get stuck like that when something breaks.

I tried to have a backup vehicle but then when the head gasket blew, I ended up spending more to fix the next vehicle in the automotive project queue than it would have taken to fix the Ranger.

Now, I will fix the Jeep since it has the least to be done on it. Water pump, window track, and tailgate power window.

To me the jeep is the easiest at this moment. You can get it moving with just the water pump.

This isn't meant to be mean, are you saying you where using the engine to torque the flywheel bolts? If so next time you should do it the right way.

Haha, I hear that. I have two that I am constantly fixing. Between my Ranger and my BII both have spent 6 of the last 12 months off the road. I think they are finally getting to the point where I'm out of things to break, as long as the nuts on my Y-pipe stop falling off.

I think he meant that he had the bolt so tight that it was spinning the engine over.

If you popped one of the main bolts in the crank shaft you might get away with that for a while. If you broke off one of the little ones that hold the pressure plate on, I would be more reluctant to try driving without that. I would think you'd get release and apply issues, and possibly some odd clutch wear.

I would try to locate new bolts while the stores are still open,

Definitely do it right. Too much to disassemble if it doesn't hold together. If it were something simpler I might chance it, but why pull the transmission any more often than you have to?

Sometimes I take my truck apart just for fun.

In fact I think next summer I might strip the engine, trans, axles, and dash out just for fun.

You're kidding. Right?

You're kidding. Right?

You bet.

This next summer's project is either going to be moving or putting a 65 Mustang together. I will find out around March.

I wasn't daunted by fixing the Rat, I should have been. Nothing too technical. Just sooo much of it. I draw some comfort from knowing that where I have been will come apart waaayyy easier than when I found it. :D

I guess it was a hobby project. Yah that is it. 1200 in parts and a couple hundred hours of my labor to turn a 600$ truck into a 1000 $ truck :icon_rofl:

I don't care , it runs great. for an old Ford :D

Pp plate bolt is what broke and I was torqing the bolts down and the engine was turning over from tightening the bolts

Ima just go into town and replace these bolts with some case hardened bolts
