94 ranger 3.0 transmission swap

I have a 94 Ranger 3.0 auto trans that is on it's last legs. I have a friend with a 93 ranger 2.3 auto transmission. My question is: will these transmissions swap out? I realize the bell housing is different but can't you change the bell housing?

Not positive, but I've read, that the bellhousing is not a separate piece that could be switched out, so you'd only be able to use a transmission from a 3.0.

Bell housing

The bell housings are removeable from both transmissions.

Other than the bellhousing not matching, it should work fine.

Although the better option would be fine a 4.0 tranny from an Explorer and put that in... 4.0 trannies have stronger internals.
