I have a 1994 Ranger 4cyl 5 speed,It is running like crap. I checked the coils it was only firing on two wires on each coil. I did some reading and everything was pointing at the icm. I changed that yesterday, now it wont hardly run at all has a strong fuel odor. I checked the coils they are firing on all four on both coils now. So I put new wires and plugs in it tonight. still very hard to start and still runs like crap. I don"t think it runs good enough now to even pull itself out of its tracks.any ideas??? Thanks

Do you know how to pull codes?

Codes will give a better indication of what to attack next.

Got to mess with the truck some today. The CEL is not on, now when i go to start it, it will start at first , but after I shut it off it will not start for a few hours. Still strong smell of fuel and its getting spark to the plugs

SeaFoam ? one in a quarter tank and one pulled through a vacuum line, then drive it third for a half hour like you stole it.:icon_hornsup:
When I pulled my spark plugs and checked the O2 sensor there was no carbon.
Oh and put some in the oil too.
It's a 94 after all .
Gas smell in the exhaust ,pissing injectors and a plugged up cat ?

Gas from bad plugs lack of maintenance can destroy a Cat ,worse case
Best case has gunk in it does the too much back presure thing .:icon_idea:
This where SeaFoam shines

Then there's compression checks,
2.3 have a issue with exhaust valves.
The not starting thing until cool can be the ignition module on the front of the intake manifold ,not grounded properly ,or just getting old.
Yeah I have a old 93 2.3 sweetheart ,last year I wanted to set fire to her :icon_welder: that F3$#$%n B##$%$h .This year we're best friends.

Learn about the systems, what controls what and how to test , its all here scattered though this site :icon_rofl:
