Hey guys, I need a quick response. When I put the 2.5 in, it ran like crap. I pulled the head, and all the exhaust valve seats are recessed. I took it to a machine shop and they said it would be at least $250 to redo the head. They then showed me a head from a 93-94 (I believe it is that era, has DIS box on the intake) that they can sell me ready to go for $150.

Will that work okay? I'm looking to get the truck running so I can sell it soon.
Thanks,
Jake

I'm pretty sure all is good, other than the exhaust ports.

My 93 and 98 had different exhaust port configurations, but if swapped with the manifold it may work... I think... I'm a OHV 4.0 guy with some 4cyl experience, so don't quote me.

Though the 2.5 head has better flow numbers and a different cam profile, its a considerable power loss.

the head will physically bolt on but there is a few things different.the bracket that holds on the coil and alternator bracket are different and the water pump pipe is different.the water jacket port that is covered up on the 94 head by the manifold is not there on the 98 head.get a 95+ head

A 95+ head will work for sure. That's what I just put on my 2.5 last week after discovering the #1 exhaust valve seat was recessed, and the heads are easier to find listed for a 2.3 than a 2.5. I only thing I found different was the holes for the water neck are bigger and the bolts that thread into them didn't fit through the water neck so I had to drill them out slightly, no big deal.
