94 b4000 axle swap/offroad build

but i cant feesiably throw money into this axle knowing that im am building a stronger pair at this very moment.

as for the long arm's i really like the way mavrick did his but i would be really kickin myself in the ass if i had to redo all of
it right now to switch out the axle. I had the old axle out and new one ready to go in in the matter of 20 min's once the tire's were off.
it was 14 bolt's that were easy to get to and EVERYTHING was out

It live's again!!!

took it out on the trail's tonight. there is a serious amount of ice on the trail's make's even the most simple obstacle's CRAZY. everything is working great except the brake's will need to address them tomorow. but i'm happy just being able to get into the seat again

WATCH OUT MIGHIGAN

While i was pullin up to the side of the road a local cop stoped and started out casually. Mentioning that he liked my truck and has seen it around town before. he also told me that state trooper's are now inspecting (and tickiting any violations) lifted vehicle's when stoped for any reason. He Gave me a piece of paper that has the lift law's and law's that apply to a lifted vehicle. He went on to tell me what he wheel's and i knew what truck it was right away and how trailering it from trail to trail is really not worth it since we dont have any dedicated wheeling area's but have an abundance of trails scattered around... WOW I ,and just about anyone else with a lifted/ modified vehicle is screwed if they get inspected. My shackle's are in violation as is my front bumper,
Bumper need's to be a minimum of 4'' wide and shackle's cannont exceed 2'' longer than factory equipment. I guess a huge shackle drop bracket is safer

the first thing on the list is all steering components shall be geometrically arranged to function as original equipment. there are to be no welds or welded part's on/ or to the pitman arm, drag link'(s), and tierod's.
Glad i went the threaded way. and hydro assist is off the future mod list.

Guess since they legalized pot they need another group to make the outlaw's
I was amazed at some of the thing's on the list.

form 54 is the only resolution, but looks like emmisions will impact it as well now. makes registration in sd look like a worthy option.

when a vehicle is homebuilt/or you are the oem in other words, use of iso compliant parts pretty much blows all that out of the water. vehicle is over 5200 pounds and set to run on 40-44 in tires ect for whatever reason needed (i have specific application for special construction being oilfield based)gives allot of leeway and with a minimum dot compliance as a base is easy to accomplish on the surface.. you need to shop the right guy for the inspection process though and that can take a year or two with the wrong guys.

of course with a basically bolt on lift ranger your fawked, but with a truck like mine, full hydro steering etc is open for debate and resolve....iso compliant parts are hard to argue against when they exceed anything else reasonable for strength.

specialized construction and custom title also bring huge responsibility and insurance issues. if you cant insure it you cant operate or tag it.:dunno:

the emmisions issue has not been resolved for me on the retitle, i can not get a clear answer across the board and have been trying for almost a year.
hydro assist is definitely legal as it came oem in the 70's in the form it appears as with the redneck ram type setups.

so i'm assuming you got the d30 back in one piece driving on it?

Looking back at the lift law stuff for you, I wonder if going with FW axles would also be illegal.

Good to hear she's back on the road/trails again.

i'm gonna run it until i start gettin hassled. if they start hounding me too much im gonna throw on a SMV triangle (Slow moving vehicle) stick to back road's and wheel around my house. if the hassle me more then i may not have a choice. i myself have yet to be inspected. and i will wait until i do to change anything to meet there criteria. Some of there law's make since if you think about it from their point of view and I think if I get stoped i will most likely drive away with a warning.

i get pulled over constantly.

solid builds....(my truck is horrendous in many regards but solid suspension steering and brakes)....with prepared solid answers are going to be fine unless you get a guy that has no business enforcing anything. if your doing something you shouldn't be or your past the frame parameters excessively or its patently obvious your shit is hack then your gonna get spanked.

theres locals that leave me alone because of the fortunate experience of a group of open wheel buggies blasting by on the road. " they aint got no fenders at all sir :shok: "... on top of that the dealer across the street had new trucks with the tires sticking at least what looked to be two inches past the fenders from where i was stopped....big lifted jeeps on the lot ...

kinda made bustin my balls hard to justify.

i do understand the buggy has different situation due to weight, but "oem road legal" vehicles have always stone busted my windshields.....turns out the same experiences were true to the officers. theres some leeway.

but i have been run out of pa on a few occasions. once i re retitle i plan to drive around out there for a few days.

there will be enforcement pushes i am sure from time to time near the popular off road areas as the off road parks grow in clients and visitation due to the inevitable ass clowns that will cause issues.

so say something when something needs to be said. not in a pomp-ass or asshat way, just try to educate. prepared solid answers:icon_thumby:

As far as lift laws in my state and emissions, they practicaly don't exist. I have yet to have an officer question my truck or look at it twice second guessing it. Hell I don't think anybody arounc me knows what a SAS is let alone know that my truck has had custom work done to it. All people ask is did you put a lift on that, I say sure, but I sure as hell didn't buy it and you won't find it forsale anywhere.

I hate how this country is becoming less free by the day and the government makes you pay and take everything in the ass. At least let me have fun with my truck.

I love gettin the question "who make's that lift ?" does everything have to be bought these day's :dunno:

the experience that stick's out in my head is this summer while cruzin some of the local two tracker's i ran across a bunch of highschool kid's drinkin around a fire. mind you i had to climb a huge dune to get to were they were since i came in the back way. I finnally convinced my copilot we would stop for 1 beverage. when i pulled up there was a a handfull that came over and we lookin over my truck. after a min or two one of them turned to me and said " That's a bad ass yota" :icon_rofl:
I replied aint no ****in yota. at which point his buddy turned to him and said your such a dumb ass "ITS A NISSAN". took them a couple of min's to realize it what it was it was acctually a girl that was lookin at it said it kinda look's like a ranger.

Off the topic but big update

DOC SAID IT LOOKS LIKE A BOY!!!!

more good new's
stoped at the junkyard since i took the day off and found a new arrival.
gen 1 explorer sport that's straight. has rust around the gas door but i can fix that. It's missing the lockout's but whocare's. went back to the office (not on site) and asked about it he said 3-400 for the whole thing! tran's might be smoked. look's like a good reasone to go with a fuely 5.0 hopefully it will make it's way into my garage. It's a shame to think that they prolly only bought it for 100 buck's but hey if it's a buisness not a charity and if i gotta do my part to keep them open that's fine too

To buy a vcehicle from a jy in my area is $800. Kinda cheaper to buy the vehicle, strip what you can from it and sell the rest back for scrap. Theres a couple of explorers in there with the 4.0 and alot of goodies in them that I would love to get my hands on.

Congrats on the child, IMO, as long as the child is healthy, that all that matters to me.

Keep us updated on everthing.

I figured they were gonna charge aound that. I saw it and was thinking that if i coulda only found this first. when i got to the office i figured it couldnt hurt to ask and wadaya know.
