94 a4ld help

on my 94 3.0 2wd when im going highway speeds or in overdrive and in overdrive gear it keeps down shifting and its doing it when im driving normally. my question is what could be causing this problem and whats the cheapest or most effective way to fix this short of rebuilding? i was thinking about a filter and fluid change with some lucas oil but with it not slipping i dont know. also this is the second transmission in this truck and this ones only got about 60k to 75k.

did you ajust the kick down cable?

Look on the drivers side firewall for a cable with a D shaped button at the firewall, get another person to put the gas pedal to the floor, and you push the D button. With the button pushed down pull on the cable to remove the slack but dont pull too hard.

also for all a4ld I reccomend A screen type filter for better flow, flow is a big problem for a4ld valve bodies.

Well, if the trans has gone 60 or 70k without a fluid change, then yes I recommend that you change it. But simply as a regular maintenance thing that should be done anyway, not as an attempt to fix a problem. Even if the trans was working properly you should still change the fluid AT LEAST every 50k. And stay away from the Lucas crap.

thanks i was planning on changing the fluid/filter but i had not thought about the screen filter where can i get one? i havent checked the kickdown, i didnt even think of that, but as soon as i can i will.

Im not shure where your at but I have A trans shop, and they stock them. Pan gasket, filter, O rings for under $10.00

but im in so cal.
