My 97 4.0 has just about had it and I have a donor engine from a 93 4.0 to swap in. I know the intake manifold is slightly different between the years and it causes me to question if there were any others. I need to know if there are any other differences between the two that would prevent a smooth swap or need modified to swap. Any help would be appreciated.

Not many changes were made to the engine itself.
Good read here on the changes by years: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/40rebuild.shtml

Yes you will need to use at least the upper intake from 1997, maybe lower.

'93 may or may not have Cam Synchronizer, it will have the hole for it with a plug and under the plug will be a removable gear and shaft that drives the oil pump, so simple swap but cam synchro/CPS does need to be timed.

In '97 crankshaft changed to 8 bolt pattern for flywheel/flexplate, earlier had 6 bolt pattern.
If you have an early '97 it could still have 6 bolt.
But moot point if '93 engine has the flywheel/flexplate that you need for you type of trans.

The heads and pistons were changed in 95. I don't know for sure, but have heard that using the wrong computer for the engine configuration can cause over heating or under power problems, depending on which way you go.
