93 ranger needs help

Bad gas sounds like a good possibility. Also when was the last time the oil was changed? If it sat for a long time with bad oil that could put a lot of stress on the engine and make it run poorly.

BTW are you the same madhatter from bash?

it may seem like its firing on all cylinders but its not, mine was doingthis. I just last night found out plugs 1 and 4 onthe primary coil werent firing. btu it wasnt missing a cylinder because the waste spark was burning the fuel just later in the compression cycle than what is otpimum, like other dude told me when the coil goes bad like that the engine goesinto default 10 degrees btdc.
swap the coils and see if it runs any better at all. evena little then go to a junk yard find a old crown vic with 4.6 (very common) and swap the coils. leave the batt cable off for 1 hr then hook at all back up and start again. if all else fails go to auto parts store and buy cheapo obd1 scanner for 40 bux.

ok so i realized my crank pulley had a slight wobble to it so i pulled it off, made sure the dampner was tight and i cleaned the crank position sensor it was pretty nasty. Made a huge difference, still acts a little stupid on my driveway, wants to stall out going up the incline so i dont know what to check next
If the crank pulley has a wobble it may have worn the key way and will cause the timing to be off. It took me a year of trouble shooting and replacing just about every sensor before I found this out. From what the mechanic at the local dealer said this is a common problem with the rangers. The crank pulley is a dealer only item and cost about 60 bucks around here. Hope this helps these rangers can be a b#*%h to trouble shoot.
