Ok so about an hour ago not even I started heading over to my buddies place and I stopped at the store on the way to get smokes I came out started my truck and noticed my check oil light was on, so I drove to my friends place and pulled my dipstick, to find very clean oil that reaks like gasoline, how come? the light had to have come on my journey to my friends place, only about a 5 minute drive maybe 7 lol but seriously, why would it do this? it's a 4.0L 5 speed, 226,400kms just started driving it again yesterday after having it sit for 2 months almost, I bought it off a guy who daily drove it from 96 up until 2 months ago when I bought it and than I basically drove it for a week and parked it, now this and my clutch feels a little soft but thats another question. Any one know what this could be? TIA

Also forgot to mention that up until I bought the vehicle the previous owner drove it as a dd and when I bought it I put a new fuel filter, oil filter, oil, spark plugs, air filter and changed over to some better looking, newer spark plug wires (I work at a junkyard, parts puller) but after that (when I bought it) I drove it for about a week and parked it for about a month and a half I've had it since like the end of feburary.

Tomorrow I'm going to change out my injectors and change my oil and filter hopefully that will be my problem but I would like to get any advise that you guys have. I know my way around a vehicle but definately need some more experience finding some problems, never had this happen to me though.

*edit* When I changed the oil it was fine no presence of any other subtance but oil.

Anyone? I never got the injectors or regulator done today cause no one stayed after work so couldn't get my parts, but I checked my Fuel pressure and with my key on it's at 35 and running about 27 is this alright? I'm confused cause it's lower than the specs, but guys at work told me it's fine but it still confuses me about how I would be gettign so much fuel dumped in? it seems to run fine, I mean like still runs just like the day I bought it, also since I've owned it, it has never over heated and like i said the old oil didn't smell like gas, does this sound like an injector could be dumping fuel in? unless you checked the oil I really don't think there is anyway you would tell it's dumping fuel in, no new ticks or clicks and no smoke when i start it or step on it

Im having trouble following this....You say at first the dipstick smells of fuel, but then you change the oil and it doesnt smell of fuel or anything else at all?

Try changing your pcv valve and double check the whole system making sure none of the hoses are loose or missing. And do a compression check next chance you get. The presence of crankcase gases unable to escape can cause the smell of fuel. Excess crankcase pressure can be a symptom of low compression on one or many cylinders.

What I was saying is that when I bought it there was no presence of any gas in the oil, I changed it when I first bought it and it was fine, than all of a sudden it started dumping gas in the oil and the oil was only driven with for maybe 50 km's, I changed out my FPR today and checking my plugs and possibly do a compression test, it seems better but something is still odd

replace your fuel pressure regulator. flooding the cylenders bypassing the rings into crank case

Well, I know it's been awhile since I've been on, let the ranger sit for a litle while longer, finally got it saftied and thought I had the fuel problem fixed, I replaced an injector I thought was flooding but I think it was just loose from the fuel rail when I popped it out and made it look like it was dumping fuel.

I replaced the FPR with one from the junkyard but I guess that's not always the best option, I work there so I got it for free thought I would try it out first. is this definately the reason? I read a few other threads from awhile ago I seen the FPR was mentioned in those aswell, I guess this must be a slightly common thing to happen in these? I guess I'll call around and grab one, changed the oil already like 3 or 4 times in less than 1000km's cause I thought I had the problem fixed, guess this would also account for some of my horrible gas milage.

also is there any way I can check my FPR to see if it's messed up? even a way to rebuild the damn thing maybe? I just called napa and either the girl didn't know what she was looking for or it is just stupid high priced, $183 for the damn thing, I'm gonna call a few other places but thats screwed up for such a small piece

What type of driving do you do? If it's mostly short trips, you will get a little bit of fuel dilution in the oil. The engine runs rich until it warms up. If you don't drive it enough to warm it up (short trips) the oil will smell like fuel. Take it for a nice long drive on the highway and see if it still smells.

Was oil level higher than normal when you first had low pressure and smell? Seeing the "new" regulator didn't cost much (lol) , try another one. If you happen to get a "good" looking unit in at work , maybe you can get a good deal on a set of injectors.

Well, I just changed my oil and through i nsome 10w30 and it didn't smell like fuel at all, then after almost a week, my check oil light comes on, I pull the dipstick out and the oil/gas is dripping off the dipstick, not like intensly or anyhting but not like the oil would, and I can strongly smell fuel, although my dipstick doesn't light on fire when I hold a lighter to it lol, quickly went and looked at the dipstick, I guess the smell isn't terribly strong, but my oil is a little low, weird because it was up the first time this ever happened, the truck runs good. but has a slight stumble now and again.

I know actually where a 94 ext cab is that just came in not that long ago, it was a roll over and wouldn't start but I'm assuming the cylinders are full of crap, I'll grab the injectors and FPR off it tomorrow, Maybe I'll go and add some oil right now though lol

oh and driving, well I drive maybe 10 minutes or so to work and most of it is doing about 90km/h, I wake up thoug hand drive to tim hortons lol and than about 8km's or something I guess from there to where I pick up speed and than I drive for another 8km's maybe, other than that it is more less short distances

Many short runs would increase times for fuel leakage after shutdown. Might be out in left field but maybe check that fuel pump shuts off when you turn key off.

Pull the vacuum line off the FPR right after shutting off the engine - if it's bad, there will usually be fuel dripping out that vacuum port.
