Does anyone know how to test the circuit board for the electric 4wd on a 93? Mine just stopped working one day all of a sudden. I can hear what sounds like switches clicking when I push the button but it never changes. Where would I test to see if the signal is being sent to the transfer case motor?

Normally, you can't hear the board when it switches unless the motor is not working properly. Usually you can only hear the tcase motor clicking once. That's how it's been on all RBV's I've owned. Sounds like your tcase motor is bad or needs cleaned.

Same thing happened to my '93 Ranger (4L V6 A/T) two nights ago. It's been raining around here and I tried to drive away in the mud and the rear wheels just dug in. Pressing the 4x4 push button just gave a series of clicking noises and then stops. If I keep trying, it will eventually show the "4x4" light on the dash, but without 4x4 enagged. Pressing the Low Range button at that point just makes the 4x4 light go out. Clicking is coming from what sounds like under the dash. Sounds like a relay trying to latch.

I climbed under the truck, rapped the transfer motor and case with a rubber mallet - nothing. I got the truck out of the mud in 2WD (lots of gravel and a shovel) and even when driving, pressing the 4x4 button does the same clicking, and sometimes the light comes on, but no 4x4 transmission.

Where should I start? Anyone have any links to a diagnostic procedure or a description about cleaning the transfer motor?

Many thanks

Technical Library is your friend.. there is a diagnostic procedure there also there is a sticky in the t-case fourm with good info on diagnostics there. look at it. it will take you through everything you need to know to test the components switch, computer, motor etc... you will need a dvm and a test light.. it has helped me fix my issues.
