93 is bogging, popping and wont rev up

he didn't ruin the thread. relax. and hes talking to EVERYONE above i believe. All hes saying is that engines are ALOT simpler than people make them out to be. all engines need 3 things to run, Compression, Fuel/Air, and a spark. Missing one of the 3 and it won't run, It runs on starter fluid so that rules out compression and spark, whats left? the Fuel/Air. My diagnosis, Fuel pump not putting out the right volume. Change your fuel filter and report back.

there was a thread last week on *FTE. the guy posted for his honda. He had spark, fuel, compression and he checked his timing 3 times(pulled the timing belt cover TDC, etc..........it would not start..........."obvious"

In many cases Removing the Bed Helps in the aiding of repairs. ie. Fuel pump replacement, hanger and shackle replacement, etc

1)the fuel cap filler is held on with 3 bolts 7mm?

2)there is an electrical disconnect at the bumper for the taillights.

3)The bed is held on with 6 torx 55 bolts. 2 of the bolts closest to the cab are longer than the other 4. I recommend buying 2 torx 55 sockets in case one breaks
4 or 5 of the bolts can be accessed from underneath and should be hit with a rust penetrator
I recommend at least one of the following, impact wrench, 1/2 ratchet with a pipe or a 1/2 breaker bar. it takes some muscle to remove the bolts.

4)The bed can be slid down for a fuel pump replacement or removed my 2 Men. a cherry picker.

5) In the event you are removing the bed for a fuel pump replacement. MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE NEG BATTERY TERMINAL.

The OP, is new to the forums. I met him on a different "ford forum" and suggested he have better luck here at TRS...........he sent me a pm last night I doubt he would mind if I posted it. Below please find a message by mdub4life

so i unplugged the MAF and it didnt change the way ot ran/ i unplugger the fuel pressure regulator and is dry and didnt change anything. i did a fuel pressure test and koeo was about 8-9 psi than with koer(some what) it is about 10-11 psi. i know it should be about 30 koeo and 40 psi koeo. so is it a bad pump?? cause i hear it prime but i dont know if its pumping enough. is it the MAF the controls how much pressure the fuel pump puts out? could that be bad and not telling the pump to work all the way at max??

Any feedback for mdub4life would be appreciated

the MAF does not control fuel pressure.

with a new fuel filter and no leaks. i'd say its the fuel pump for sure.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I was definitely talking to people who throw random solutions to problems that can simply be diagnosed and fixed with testing.

I was actually going to applaud you for thinking of adding fuel to a no start situation. Starter fluid is an easy way to test whether fuel is reaching the cylinders.

I do understand some people are novices on here, but alot of people expect a instant definitive answer from a list of problems/symptoms they list. Since most of us on here live states apart......it's up to the OP to test the rightly suggested system. Narrow it down.

No, I wasn't born with this knowledge. It's a combination of being taught by my father, self taught from books and even this forum, forcing myself to learn in pinches, and the 2 years of education in automotive technology, topped with Ford MLR training and cert.

I'm sorry if my information seemed vauge, but I wanted YOU to check things. I may have suspected a fuel pump, or a clogged pump sock, or even a bad connection to the pump. BUT, you would have to check them.

My post, besides the OP's 1st, was the only one up to that point, pointing you in the right direction. Many people often overthink an engine, I was trying to simplify it. It's better than posting up MAF, IAC, EGR...blah, blah, blah. And it's correct that all an engine needs to run is ignition, fuel (gas/air), and compression, though an engine can run on piss poor compression. Check the simple things FIRST. There is a PROCESS, otherwise you're just chasing your own tail to end up inconclusive results.

By the way, I am talking to YOU.....modelageek.

Who and what were you talking about........it always shows more courage to actually confront the person you were backstabbing.......peckerhead.......

some people on here are novices and need some explanation.......let me guess you are a self proclaimed genius and were born with all this knowledge.......good job screwing up a thread........you're great at it

Ranger44 .....good post. I think that should help the OP build on his DXing :icon_thumby:

I agree with your post!!

thanks guys so i was out of town for a while and had parked the truck for a bit. i was super frustrated with it and i just needed to step away cause i wasnt thinking about starting with the basics like ranger. well after i sprayed the starting fluid i the intake and it ran great i know it had to be fuel related. so i had to wait for the parts stores to open and i finally got time to go buy a fuel pressure tester/gauge. it ended up only being like 10 pounds at all times to i figured it had to be fuel pump so i pulled the bed (damn its hella easy to pull a bed on a ranger-whew!!-) threw a new pump in and primed it..... and blam it fired right up!!! it was a huge relief

so i let it run for a while it kind of freaked me out cause it idle surged for a about thirty seconds right when i started it up. but it runs great now. i drove it all day today and didnt skip a beat!!! u guys a have been a phenomenal help thanks again

the Op on post #1 said he changed the fuel filter. We all agree he needs to do a fuel pressure test but I have a feeling the OP is a novice, at least with Rangers, so we were doing the Kindergarten thing.....wasn't that "obvious"

thank u but i am not a novice. i have been around cars/race cars/offroad trucks/dirtbikes and motorcycles since i was young. i have been on the toyota band wagon for years and made the switch to rangers. so yes i am VERY novice to rangers. i am trying to learn them cause i know yotas in and out but this is new to me. i just hate having problems with my daily rig cause i have to have it running with kids to pick up otherwise id just ride one of my motorcycles. i dont think very clearly when working on my own rigs when i am stressed so thank u very much for ur patience and help. :icon_cheers: and :nono: for not playing well with others u ranger freaks lol but seriously thanks

Glad you got it going. you want to change/check your tranny fluid. it take s a little over 3 quarts of Mercon or Mercon V. you have rubber plugs at the top of the tranny they are known to leak on your Model. plus your rear leafspring shackles and hangers are probably rusted if you are in a snow/salt belt.
