Hi everyone, Does anyone know if I could use some forged I beams from a 93 ranger to replace my stamped I beams in my 83? Thanks!

google says only '89 to '97 are interchangeable....

Dont listen to Google, we here at TRS knows more about RBVs then Google.

Yes, the 89+ beams will work on an 83-88, but you have to swap everything from the beams out. (knuckles, brakes, etc.) The difference is that the newer beams have the ball joints in the knuckle, where the older style, they are in the beam.

Yea, they started stamping them after 88, yours should be forged

So what your saying is I have to use a complete set of beams which means beams with knuckles, brakes etc. correct? Thanks for the help.

You can keep your brakes. Ford stopped using the sliding pin caliper in '95.

All you would need to swap is the beams and spindles, and that's it.

Oh, and while you're at it, think about replacing your axle pivot bushings and radius arm bushings with polyurethane ones. Wore out factory rubber bushings SUCK!

'82-1/2 and some '83 Rangers had stamped steel beams (folded sheetmetal like a 4x4)
instead of the forged beams ford switched to in mid 1983.

It should be noted that the beams used from mid '88-on were not forged,
but CAST, not that "cast"

Frankly if you are going to go through the effort of upgrading a 1982-1/2 or 1983 go ALL the way and swap on 1995-97 Beams and get the better two-piston brakes

It should also be noted that the radius arms you have now MUST be replaced because the radius arms off the early sheet metal beams will not fir either of the later 2wd beams.

The best Radius arms to get? the ones used on 2wd trucks from 1984-1988, because they use a shockmount that doesn't snap off at the slightest provocation when you put a wrench on the nut (the 1984-88 Radius arms use a through bolt and a brace bracket and is completely removeable/replaceable.
