I have had the issue for the last two years or so where my truck would not start. When I turned the key I would not hear the fuel pump. I would then spray starting fluid into the throttle body and it would crank right up. As it only happened once every couple of months or so, I have just lived with it.
It got down to freezing in sunny north Georgia the last couple of days and the truck absolutely would not start without the spray. Every time.
After an hour of messing with the relays, a jumper wire and a meter, I took some 400 grit sandpaper I had laying around and cleaned up the terminals on the relay. They did not look at all dirty but they were a plain dull grey before I cleaned them.
After I reinstalled the relay and turned the key I was pleasantly surprised when the fuel pump not only kicked on but it sounded stronger. It used to have kind of a dying whir sound but it sounds new now.
Just thought I would share my experience. I know I have seen many posts about fuel pumps not working. Cleaning terminals that look clean might not be at the top of the list of things to check but maybe it should.
