Hi y’all
Recently my 87’ 2.9l ranger started to miss while I was driving, I replaced in tank fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, now it will crank but not start fully. At times it’ll start for a second and then die off..
I’m thinking maybe the high-pressure pump or inertia switch? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Can you hear the frame rail pump run when you turn the key on?

I say this all the time...

What is the fuel pressure?

Sorry for late response. I don’t hear the pump on the frame rail just the in tank, I don’t have a pressure gauge to check fuel pressure however I did push the needle on the hookup and gas sprayed out. I had it idling this evening after feathering the throttle for a while however when I took it around the block anytime I hit the gas it would cut out.

A brief history.
When I purchased this truck the previous owners had put a hole in the catalytic converter, and had the o2 sensor unplugged, I replaced the cat, plugged in the sensor and after a week or two it would start missing at highway speeds. I thought I got some bad fuel or something so I replaced the fuel filter, went ahead and changed the spark plugs, it seemed as though it wasn’t getting fuel, so I replaced the in tank pump, fuel relay, inertia switch. Today it idled but wanted to die when I hit the gas and just ran awful.

Get yourself an eec iv scanner (or use a test light) and try to pull some codes.

Also get an fuel pressure tester and actually check fuel pressure.

It could be a dying pump, or a TPS, or something else. More diagnosis is needed
