I have a 1993 Ranger ext cab w automatic trans and 4wd. I also just aquired a 1993 Explorer Sport 4wd Trans. Both have/had a 4.0 infront of them. Now i just need to know what all is gonna need to be done other than hooking up a clutch pedal and hydraulic system, swapping the floor pan, removing auto shifter, flywheel and clutch assembly installed and bolting up the new 5 Speed onto the Ranger. Im pretty sure that theyll fit together without any adjustments to the drive shafts and what not. I also wonder about the computer because i would beleive that unplugging the auto trans would make the computer throw a code and not pass inspection. If anyone knows of a write up or could give me good feed back on this i need to know asap. Trans is givin out quick in the ranger and i drive alot so i dont wanna be stuck on the side of the road.

You pretty much already covered everything. The computer will throw a code, but it'll still be drivable. Or just grab the computer off the Explorer and put it in the Ranger. Not sure about the driveshafts.

do i need the computer thats behind the pass kick panel? if not wheres it at. and i only worry bout the code because of inspection in NC will fail becuase of engine light. idk if theres a way to jumper past the whole idea. and are the trans gonna swap perfect? idk what the serial numbers and shit on the new 1 are but i know it was stock on both truck and explorer and since they both 4wd, 1993 and have a 4.0 i figured that they would be the same... and i should also only need. Flywheel, Clutch Pressure plate and cover, pilot bearing, and thats it from between the trans and crank shaft correct?

Just did this swap on my 92 ranger. Tranny lengths are the same so the driveshafts will work. Use the explorer computer. The master cylinders will not interchage they are at a different angle so the clutch rod will not line up with the clutch pedal. You have to remove the dash to install the pedal assembly. The spacer plates are different between the manual and the auto. You will also need the starter from the explorer pm me if you have any more questions.
