ok so i have the 93 4.0 for some time, was rebuild in 05 and claimed to only have 25K on it. i just put a trans in it this spring, has about 4-500 miles on it and now its smoking like a sun of a gun some time, but its hit and miss... everynow and then it will just really smoke, it does it if i drive it on long trips(2 hours stright on highway doing 70ish.) so would that be valve seals? or whats wrong? i dont get it, its kind of upsetting me, it leaked a littel from the pan but it didnt bother me i would just add alittle oil now and then but now its like burn burning it...

what are your thoughts?

If it runs strong and has good compression it should be the valve seals.. Could be the valve guides are worn out. A competent rebuild always has new valve guides installed..
A jackleg rebuild is new rings without boring the cylinders.. and just new valve seals..
Both of which will cause oil burning eventually.

Check also to see if the transmission is low, if the modulator valve is shot you will find ATF in the lines at the vacuum tree at the rear of the manifold, hints of this issue is the vacuum lines popping off.

Good luck

What's the best brand valve spring compressor for compressing the valve spring, while the head is still on the engine and the cylinder is being pressurized with compressed air, through the spark plug hole, as the valve stem oil seal is replaced..

Does the rocker arm need to be taken off, for each cyclinder, while doing this procedure??

I would not trust air, I always force rope into the plug hole and pull the cylinder tight to keep from dropping a valve.

Good luck

well i dont know what the hell is wrong but now the rear pass. brake line blew the fitting where it goes in the drum...

ok so if the brakes fixxed and all that whats the truck worth? new tires on it, mabie 2 k on them. rebuilt starter, front brakes done, and a trans with about 600 miles on it... auto with OD.

If we are talking the 93 one? Around here maybe a grand if you find the right buyer.

Guys that buy a 93 EXPECT it to work... Keeping up your vehicle is a normal expense.

Jim,

I can't believe I am going to say this.......

I agree!

Grease down, shine up.

Good luck

ok i agree with you to a point but how many times do you put trans in a truck? the thing has 185K on it. and the engine has 50K on it now so the guy says that i got the truck from and i trust him cause hes good friends with my gramp...

That is good for the present owner

but out in the market it has to compete with other 17 year old vehicles... and all of them are in running condition. Your market may be slightly different than ours around here.
I just looked at craigslist and a 97 was put on there today marked at two grand. Now with allowances for year and discounts for cash haggeling..
