my name is Kameryn im 17, im not so great in school but mechanicly inclined im also ASE certified in brakes and i have a 1993 ranger red cab long bed 2.3l 5 speed. i also have a 2.3t out of an 87 xr4ti and a tranny out of a turbocoupe stang that i want to swap. i read all the tech library stuff on swaping the 2.3 turbo but in the wiring it doesnt go to like a step by step.i have the complete harness for the xr4ti but did not find a pcm on the car. ive been hearing alot about this "mega squirt" and "switching pins in the stock harness and adding sensors" but none show exactly how.:icon_surprised: Is there anyone that has done this swap in a 93 already that could give me some tips or talk me through some of it or show some pics. my number is 602-321-7205 and my e-mail is kkranski93@yahoo.com

megasquirt is a totally new computer system and harness and pretty escessive for just a normal build, just search the internet for a turbo ecu then you need to find pinouts for the ecu you get and the one from your truck, then switch pins in the harness to accomodate the new ecu, you will need a few things along with the computer like vam and injectors. my truck is a 93 so i could help you especially if you get an LAx series computer

what did you get your motor out of or did you swap the internals and what about adding sensors or swapping whole engine harness or is it all one i just worry about stupid stuff like headlights and blinkers and radio how does the body harness connect to the engine harness because on my truck it looks all wrapped together? and by the way i like (Used For: shuttin up hondas:icon_thumby:)

my motor is a 93 ranger block and head with turbo rods and pistons swapped it only sensors you need with a stock turbo ecu is the VAM and BAP. no need to swap in a different harness just repin yours at the plug.
you can even keep the dual plug head and the distributerless ignition keeping everythingas stock ranger as possible makes it much easier

does megasquirt make a whole new engine harness for the 2.3 merker motor and i just swap a whole new pcm and harness? i just want it to be simple and run good for now maybe a little mor boost than stock though.

megasquirt is a standalone ecu and uses a new harness, it is really overkill especially if you want not much more than stock. i would just get a turbo ecu and the vam and injectors to match

it would be easier to swap th forged internals into your 93 block, andd the turbo exhaust manifold, intercooler etc to the na motor, put in larger injectors and get a sct tuner for your stock ranger ecu and go from there.

I think it would be easier to drill/tap the 3 holes needed for the crank sensor, ditch one of the coil packs and put the turbo engine in... that'll save a $75 head gasket and $30 head bolts, re wire things for an LA3 with the appropriate sensors...

didn't ford switch to OBD1 computer system before 93? The la3 is eec-4 computer. The two systems aren't interchangeable.

from what I remember the computers have the same connector through '94, so with some repinning it should be able to work

the 93 ranger is EEC 4 which is also OBD1 just like the LA3, they are axactly the same minus the tunes and pinouts. move a few wires, remove a few and add some wires for the vam and your ranger harness is good to go with the LA3. i have an LA2 in my 93 with the stock ranger harness its really easy

i wasnt aware that OBD1 and eec were that similar. it must have been OBD2 for sure that isnt compatible with the eec4 then. i apologize. learn something new every day.
