there may be a thread on this already but what problems if any am i going to run into by swapping a 93 8 plug 2.3 into my 96 8 plug 2.3?

The crank sensor and mounting are different.

the crank and cam sensors should be your main issues...

Whats the solution? Use all the 93 stuff? Or 96 stuff? Computer, wire harness etc. Cuz im stickin this motor in this weekend and hopefully it will work out

if I knew I'd tell ya, I have 4 vehicles and the newest is a '92, so I don't know the most about the newer setup. Swapping the EDIS crank trigger on is supposed to be a snap, I don't know about the cam sensor... once you get the old engine out you can most likely make it work. To get the engine to work with everything on the truck you will need to use the '96 wiring and computer, the intake manifolds are probably different between the two, but you should be able to put the new throttle body on the old intake if the throttles are different. the rest of the sensors should be there I believe

what do u mean by mounting is different?

Where the sensor is mounted, the shape of it is totally different. The 96 engine has sensor that looks like an abs wheel sensor that mounts on the front crank seal housing and reads the nothed part of the crank pulley or harmonic balancer. The 93 is different. Behind the crank pulley is a thin metal blade type wheel with a couple of cut outs for the sensor to read.

This not and exact picture but is clearly shows the type of sensor used in the 96 2.3L eng.

There a few difference. The crank sensor as mentioned, will have to be fabricated to fit the older engine and that has to be a pretty exact fit.If I remember, the intakes have a different water jacket in the center to pick up water to head. There is also the issue that you would have to wire in a cam sensor to the 96 harness assuming that your 93 had a cam sensor and I think that that was only available in 94 California spec truck.I think that a few sensors are not there. You will have to use your 93 alt.brackets as the 96 bracketry doesn't bolt to the older motor right.Throttle cable is a little different in hookup. You could change the harness from the 93 but a lot of work.Sell the 93 and get a 95+,better yet,get a 2.5

my main problem is that my truck came without the whole top end to the engine. i have the whole 93 engine with all brackets ps,alt,tb,intake ,header etc. i would post pix of everything i have but some reason the site says i may NOT post attachments. not sure why. and thanks ALOT for the fast responses! i hope i can make this work, not worried about it smogging just need it to run! and i already got this engine (the93) and cannot afford to get another engine

i need pix of the throttle body wire clip and or a pik of the whole engine in a running truck (96) motors all in and im having a couple issues with wires that dont go anywhere
