Hi got a 92 ranger was a 2.3 swaped in a 4.0 wiring and all. wiring is for an auto but with a man tran in it
Now... the battery light stays on, its missing at idle and missing up to 1500~ when revved, backfires when coming down to an idle. Long and hard start with backfiring. And has a fan sequel ,temp gauge not working.
The miss seems random and the backfire seems like its coming from the pass side
Replaced wires, plugs, fpr, fuel pump, thermostat, temp sesors.
Was running fine when i pulled it. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but did you swap computers when you swapped everything else? Also, codes?!

No codes. Yes swapped the coms.

Update:
Was messing with it, started seeing smoke up the back of the cab, and the cats were glowing orange?

Were both cats orange or just one? Do you know how the motor ran before the swap?

Motor ran ok a little rough but not backfiring before the swap

Both cats were glowing orange and making the pass floor hot enough to start to melt some plastic peices i had laying around. Doesnt have any kind of flooring in yet(thank god), just bare metal

Wow. I'd say it has a serious rich issue then. Or the cats were plugged from a light rich problem for quit some time.

I saw exactly the same thing with my mom's 92 Saturn. It melted the carpet a little and changed the tone of the door chime. Was kinda weird.

Took the cats off and ran some sea foam through it seemed to clean up the miss but its bbackfiring more than before. I plan on puttng new cats on. Still lacking power.

have you checked firing order and coil pack voltage supply?

Iv double checked the firing order, its fine.
How would i check the voltage supply?

using a multimeter check voltage going to coil i believe 12 volts but don't remember for sure

also 1 other thought have you checked timing chain deflection..

Good voltage
Got some new cats on it, now it seems to be backfiring and missing when cold, still feels like its lack power or maybe its just me.

I lost track, have you replaced the coolant temp sensor? the 2 wire one? If you don't fix the richness, you'll waste the cat

No didnt replace that one. Will do that today.
