Ok so i got my hands on said truck. Seems to work fine other than an intermittent lifter knock.

It has roughly 180000 kilometres or 113000 miles on it. I have no idea when it was last flushed, filter change etc.

The problem is 2nd gear. First gear is fine, but when i pull out of an intersection lets say, when it hits 2nd gear it seems to labour and rev, but not really go anywheres. feather the throttle and i can get it to drop into 3rd, and od and it works fine. I really notice it in stop and go traffice lets say. Then sometimes it seems to work normally.

I have checked the fluid and it is slightly overfull.

Im just wondering if someone can tell me anything on this? Is it a sign if my tranny taking a dump? Or should i Drop the pan and change the fluid and filter? or take it and have it flushed? Reading the posts id say a flush and then filter change, but i was hoping someone would chime in and give me some advice!

TRS is an awesome site to learn information! Countless times, just by reading a little bit you can find someone else who has had the same or similar problem as you! Hats off to all that contribute their time and expetise or opinions to guys like me.

Possibility the intermediate band broke(2nd gear) another problem maybe with the intermediate servo could of come apart also, but most common problem is broken band.

I should add to that too that its worse when its cold. Once it warms up it gets better and like i said, seems ok sometimes.

If the band was broken it would be like that at all times im thinking. still aprreciate the quick reply. I thought i should clarify my prob though.

A broken band sounds like a removal of tranny. Is the intermediate servo inside too? Sorry for my noobieisim, but im not overly versed in trannys unless its has 2 wheels.

Yes if the band was broken it would just shift from 1 to 3 basically or just neutral out in 2nd gear and then would go into 3rd. The servo could be getting hard which does happen..the intermediate servo is on the outside of trans which is on the right side about middle of case and maybe changed in the vehicle sometimes. It also could be possible that the band is worn bad also..you can try to adjust it which may help...on the drivers side of trans by the shift linkage is a band strut adjusting lug which has a locking nut on it being a 3/4 inch wrench size and the center piece is a squared head in which a 3/8 12 point socket will fit(if i remember right) loosen the locknut and with an inch pound torque wrench set at 120 inch pounds tighten center lug till torque wrench clicks and while holding jam nut with wrench ...then back center lug out 1 1/2 turns and tight lock nut while holding center lug...that is if you feel comfortable in attempting this.

Just thought id follow up in case of anyone doing a search, or having similar problems.

Turns out it was the intermediate band backed right off.

Works like a new one now. Not even like driving the same truck.

Having friends at the trans shop pays off. New oil, filter, and time all for $80 cash.
