Is it possible to swap a 92 4.0 that was originally equipped with a 5 speed into a 90 that has a 4.0 but paired with the a4ld. I'm doing this since the 90 has a lifter tick and oil leaks also its the daily driver. Is it a direct bolt in? I am keeping the a4ld in the 90 so was wondering if they were the same. Thanks!

Yes, 1990-1996 4.0l were the same, '97-'00 has 8 bolt crank.

I would change the rear main seal while flywheel is off.

You may need to change upper intake, may, but I think all the sensor placement is the same

If this is your first automatic then you need to MAKE SURE the torque converter is fully seated inside the transmission before bolting trans to engine, if you forget you WILL be buying a new transmission
