here the highlights

teen put in a new battery and ran it for a week or so with no problems. The truck dies pulling away from a stop sign coming home from Mc donalds. Come to find out he didn't get the negative cable clamped down tight and it was laying loose on the terminal... had a no start condition (wouldn't turn over) due to a dead battery. BTW the battery showed to be defective after we pulled it and took it in.

Replaced the battery, turns over fine still no start. have no spark out of the coil. Used an inline spark tester. Put 12v test light on the red/green going to the coil and have power there. replaced with a brand new coil and still have no fire coming from the coil?

cannot find the ICM they said there was a recall and the ICM was removed from the distributor and put on the fire wall?... anyway I would have to pull the distributor to get to the ICM in the oem loaction...

Any other suggestions before I go through all this work in 20 deg weather?

Thanx in advance

With a loose battery terminal, you could have suffered the ill affects of removing a battery terminal while the engine is running. Huge voltage spikes can be created, which will destroy PCM, ICM, or anything electronic. Check the PCM fuses, if your real lucky it might be a blown fuse.

I checked all the fuses under the hood 2-30's 2-40's a 60 and 2-15's

They were all good.

tested the ICM and it was good. The ICM was mounted on the radiator support on the drivers side.

ended up pulling the distributor believing the spark sensor was bad... btw you can't replace the spark sensor w/o pulling the distibutor and taking it apart.

3 - 5 teeth chipped on the distributor gear... ended up just replacing the whole distributor and it cranked right up... it was $89.00 at oreilley's and they had it in stock.

Ran better and smoother than it ever has.

Thanx

Great news! Glad you got it running. Thanks for the update.

glad to see you got the problem solved, i was going to suggest checking the pick up module, but you beat me to it. hopefully none of those teeth went through anything important on their way to the bottom of the pan, did you try to get a look at the teeth on the camshaft to see if any of them were missing too?
