It started yesterday between 2000 3500 rpm check engine light goes on and off but driving home today it stoped then took it for a boot started again not as bad now it comes and goes while driving any ideas

well, for starters...it would be best to get codes....they will help you get going in the right direction...so you're not just throwing parts at it.

That said there very well maybe more than 1 issue at hand. for example; 2 sensors not playing nice with each other, giving bad info from 2 directions to the ECM. but the tripped codes would also show them.

general maintenance is always good, SO when was the last time it was tuned up??
& fuel filter changed?? Also check those electrical connections and grounds as well as the vacuum lines....make sure that they are all good.

does this happen more when just after it has been started, (after it has been sitting over night)??? OR does it do this after it has been driven more than 10min?

i pulled the codes and the only one that came up was code 67 neutral pressuer switch i did the fuel filter 2 months ago cap rotor plugs and wires less than a year ago it seems to do do it more when its warmed up i couldnt locate the map sensor

sounds like you need to investigate the neutral safety switch. or pressure switch.

I'd also recommend to remove the TFI (aka ignition module), and get it tested, test at least 3 times. (located on the rear of the distributor housing)

not too sure on the later models, but earlier ones either had the MAP sensor on the firewall just to the left of the upper intake....or on the passanger side fender.

I cant see how the neutral safety switch. or pressure switch could have any
thing to do with the problem im having isnt that for when starting. Now today my drive to work and back the truck ran fine it seems to have stoped what do you think about that? why would it just stop

I didden't see anything in the tune up info about a air cleaner. I had the same prob. with an 88 bII i had after it sat for a few weeks. Turns out that some chipmonks liked the truck as much as i did and decided the air cleaner housing was a good home. Darn varmints!!!!
