I have a 91 ranger 4.0 supercab, a short while ago it starting to idle badly and suddenly ran terribly a couple days ago, since then I have taken the whole in take apart: MAF, IAC, Filter, EGR and cleaned it all out. Still nothing improved. This monday I started it up and my battery gauge is all over the place, and the exhaust is dripping out oil and gas. I just replaced the spark plugs because they had oil around them and were shot and checked all the wires and coil pack, but made no difference. I have a appointment with a ford specialist on monday but i would like to have some ideas as to the problem. This truck was in really great shape and this problem just appeared out of nowhere.:bawling:
Can anyone give me ideas? Ill include Pics of the problem spots if needed...

You posted many words and not a single bit of information for anyone to try to troubleshoot.. GET specific for the guys here to know what the hell you are trying to say.

Im sorry you cant understand English Big Jim how much more specific can I get? The truck is missing and putting too much gas in the engine and dripping oil out of the exhaust...I dont need a answer too specific I want a general idea to go on :thefinger:

Pull codes?

If it's running that bad it's probably throwing some...they should point you in the right direction.

Ok then not to be too specific...your truck is broke! Why don't you fix it?

my guess would be, and this is just a guess by your vague info, your computer or maf or something is giving your motor too much gas which you already know... now that being said it has washed the rings out and now oil is getting in your combustion chamber... which explains the oil in the exhaust... or bad valve seals... i could go on and on and on it could be a numerous amount of things... as has been said check your codes and when you go to the dealer have them put a noid light on your injectors to see wat they are doing... but we reallt do need more info... is it or was it smoking before if so wat color, blue, black, white, green, purple and your battery guage going haywire doesnt mean any thing its ford guages their all f'ed up...picks would be good but still their is more info needed

i would have to say your rings are shot thus fouling your plugs and causing the missing. now you just need to figure out what caused it. i dont know why people are biting off your head you are just giving the best info you know. it might be your computer gone of the deepend but if you can notice thing about it as you drive it around it will help. have fun and heope you get it better or put it down and heart transplant.....yea....

Another couple things you could check are 1. the fuel pressure regulator, if it is bed it would suck gasoline in through the vacuum line and cause a very rich condition which has been stated before could wash out the cylinder walls. Pull the vacuum line off the regulator and see if there is gas in it or it smell off gas, there should be none.

2. If its an automatic, the vacuum modulator could be bad, causing it to suck transmission fluid through the engine causing your smoke and poor running. to check it pull the vacuum line off and see if transmission fluid runs out, It should'nt

The truck is a manual trans, 153k and is constantly in cold weather outside. The engine knocks when you start it up and then once it warms up blows blue smoke out of the exhaust and i can smell burning oil, there is also oil all over the transmission and headers. It loses about a quart ever 1500 miles. I have to floor it to get it to run and it only goes up to 1000rpms. I cant move it or it stalls. The engine has never been rebuilt or anything, the cel goes on after it warms up. I just replaced the spark plugs today and the other ones were fouled with oil. Im not really sure what other info to include that about sums it up...just ask a question if you need to know more. thanks for any help:icon_cheers:

if you think 153k is a lot for these engines, get a chevy. i have 250+k on mine, and she just keeps going. you need to scan that cel that is coming on. without the numbers that the code scanner brings up you are just taking stabs in the dark. your local parts store could scan it for you (normally free) if you don't have a scanner. the scanner will tell you why: it stalls, where the oil is coming from, and everything else that has to do with the engine and it's electronics.

If anybody was wondering, it was the fuel pressure regulator and the thermostat went in too. I couldnt figure it out so i had to take it to the shop...$$$ but it runs better now.
