Hello everybody I am new to the community, thanks for havin me. I have a 91 Ranger five speed (Mazda trans) I bought the truck for a good price and am taking good care of it.

It started having intermittent problems shifting into gears. It does not grind it resist me from putting it into gear. I rev the motor to try and downshift but that does not work, neither does double clutching. I thought it might have been the slave cylinder not disengaging the clutch. Not wanting to pull the bell housing later down the road I installed a new clutch, flywheel, clutch plate, and slave cylinder myself.

I put it all back together to find the same problem. I am at my wicks end, does anyone have an idea/knowledge?

Have you checked what kind of oil is in the transmission? I don't know about your year but my Haynes workshop manual covers 1993 through 2008 and it says to use MERCON automatic transmission fluid for the 5 speed manual transmission. Perhaps it would be worth draining the fluid and refilling with MERCON. Just a thought....

It is a 1991 xlt with a 2.3. I just put 90wt gear oil in it actually. I'll give it a shot and post my results, thanks for the suggestion.
