91 Ranger 302 swap maybe

I have a 91 Ranger 2wd with a 3.0 v6 and M5r1. My 3.0 was dieing so I pulled it and the tranny out. I have a 302 out of a 90 crown vic sitting in the garage and I noticed that the 2 connectors on the drivers side of my Ranger that the 3.0 engine harness plugs into matches the connectors on the engine harness on the crown vic engine. I have the engine harness from the crown vic, but not the main harness. The fuel lines look like they come out in the same spot as well. I have been searching and reading and was planning on just dropping another 3.0 in there, but if its just a matter of swapping a few wires around in the connectors I will use the 302 that I already have.

Just bought an EVTM for 91 for some reading materials.

It looks like the 302 is quite a big bigger than I thought it was. Any tips for sitting just the engine in there so I can see if I like how it sits in there? Do I have to take the heater box out first? I have the A/C box and am hoping to just heat it up and bend it the way i need it. Anyways, I am going out there to play some more.

edit: I got it sitting in there far enough that I can see where I need to clearance some things aka the heater box.

I don't think the crown vic manifolds will work. It looks like they go at the right angle, but there it is too close to the steering shaft for my likings. I have some 66 mustang 289 manifolds that I put on there and they look to be closer and could probably work, but they dump right into the firewall. I think I can probably get the engine a bit lower and that would help them clear, but I am debating on just sucking it up and purchase the Headman 88400s. I was planning on just using the stock 3.0 mounts with plates for the mounts, but it looks like I would have to move the mounts to a higher hole in the engine crossmember as the oil pan is sitting on the mounts on both sides. I think this will lower the engine another inch or so which will help with exhaust clearance as well. I am thinking about just ordering the mustang convertible mounts. I can get brand new ones shipped to my house for $30. Anybody have any suggestions?

I am not completely sure, but from what I have been reading they are all a smudge different, but a lot of the main components are the same.

The Mustang mounts definately make it simple.

im interested in a 3.0 to a 302 also,, only mines a 94.. would ours be much different ya think?

'94 is pretty much the same as '91. same firewall, same core support.

That is what I wanted to hear. I think my engine crossmember has 3 holes already in it for mounts. If i am lucky it will fall into one of those.

A hole is pretty easy to drill, lol!

Mine fit in one of the holes, but I slotted it anyway.

I received the motor mounts via fed ex on Saturday. I didn't have any time to work on it this weekend though. I did get the transmission pulled out of the shed. It appears to be roughly the same length as the M50d-r1. I believe it was ~ 31 inches from the front of the bell housing to the end of the tail shaft. The drive shaft yoke from the m5 also slides right into the AOD. Goal of the week is to just get the engine and transmission sitting in there bolted down to both crossmembers.
