ok, I ended up with 2 explorers, I'm going to strip the good stuff out of the auto one and put it in the manual one and am trading the auto one to my coworker for his '91 Lincoln town car so he can have something more reliable and versatile. The ring gear exited the lincoln a couple weeks ago... that and the normal shot air suspension leads me to the conclusion that it needs an axle swap from a crown vic or something that has coil springs, so I'm here now, what will swap in easy? should I just go with another Town Car axle and slap some springs on top or is there something else as easy?

I have about $1200 in the explorer ($500 in the other one) and figure I can get a fairly easy $1500 out of the lincoln with a decent running 4.6, on the quarterly 1/2 off sale at the U pull it yard I can get an axle for about $60 with everything attached so it's a cheap swap I just don't know jack about the car side of Ford...

ummm I don't think you can just swap springs and it'll work, unless you find a town car that has coils. I do know they sell conversion kits as I have installed a few in my shop.

that's why I'm asking, I didn't know... thanks
