I Have A 91 F150 4x4 302 5 Speed How Hard Will It Be To Put In 87 Ranger 4x4 With 2.9 5 Speed I Have The Whole F150

Hard part? In a swap like this, the question you should be asking yourself is:

"What's going to take me the longest to accomplish?"

But, since the 302 is EFI, that opens a door into wiring issues, as in how to meld it into the ranger's wiring. It might even be better to go carb to save on wiring and smog. but thats just the tip of the iceberg...........

All I know is, yes, it can be done. Check out the tech library, look up every single subject, take notes, compile a list on what you need to make this sucessful, and ask lots of questions, everyone here is more than willing to help you.:icon_thumby: :icon_thumby: :icon_thumby: :icon_thumby:

with the 91 harness your basically gonna have to wire from the 4-plugs on the engine harness to the ECU, being the rest is intigrated into the body harness of the f-150. you still need to swap oil pans to the mustang, and if you want the hood to close you need a body lift, as for the air box toss the 91 box out and get a 85-86 air box(alot smalller), and with the exploder 4.0 rad you looking at about .5 to 1inch in clearance to the radiator if you don"t tuck it(the tranny cooling lines where damn near touching my power steering box so i tucked the radiator). personally i got fed of with trying to make the f150 system work so basically im going carb

Yeah, I remember now. The EFI intake on the f-150 is consideribly taller than that of a mustang, so a body lift is required. Plus, depending on the EFI setup, you probably have speed density EFI vs. the much better Mass Air Flow EFI.

Meaning, no matter what intake or exhaust mod you install, performance will stay pretty much the same, but with MAF(mustang), the computer can sense changes made and adjust accordingly, meaning more power.

Thats why on mine I ditched the f-150 setup and went mustang. Easier to find parts and easier to work on.

yeah and also to run the mustang setup on the f-150 engine you gotta swap cams to, the firing orders are different vs the ho MAF firing order

Yeah, so pretty much the choice you have is to use either ALL mustang or ALL F-150. I would go with the mustang, the f-150 is full of smog crap and is too bulky. Mustang is alot easier to figure out.
