I have a 4.0 with a A4ld auto and would like to swap for a five speed manual. I have a chance to pull a five speed out of an older 4x4 ranger but Im not sure that the engine sizes are the same. What should I be looking for? Can this be done with little modification? Is the transfer case different should I grab it while Im in there? Do you have any helpful tricks or tips to make the process go more smoothly.

Thanks

the transfer case will bolt to the transmission no matter what type it is. if the transmission that you find has a pan on the bottom that you can remove, it is a mitsubishi transmission and is undesireable. if it doesnt have a removable pan on the bottom, then it is likely a Mazda M5OD-R1 tranny. there is more to it. read the sticky at the top of this forum. use the search funtion. there is lots of info on this swap.
