Well I have a question that seems stupid but here it goes. A friend aquired a skidster from someone he knows. His friend blew up the motor. He found a guy that said he could put a 2.2 outta a dodge shadow into it for him and keep the tbi, and stock distributor all while deleting the computer. Well the guy was doing all the work, got it in mounts made and all. Never did any of the wireing and dissapeared. Donor got scrapped and the wiring harness hacked. The guy who owned it wanted it outta his way and offered it to my friend for free. He has talked to a few people who keep telling him it is possible to wire it to run without the computer. I am thinking maybe but not likely (more like not possible). Only thing I could think was to wire the optical pick up for the distributor to the injector to get a pulsing signal to make that fire. Any thoughts, I really dont think that will work but that is the only thing I could think. I was thinking there must be a 2.2 with carb setup off of something else we could stal a distributor, intake, and carb from to make it work not sure what but I am thinking maybe. Any input is greatly appreciated.

You need a computer if your going to have fuel injection, period. There is no way around it. 10 to 1 when the guy realized his "idea" would not work, he took off cuz he realized he was in over his head. You have two options, either get a carb setup, or find another 2.2L vehicle and grab the ECU and engine harness off of it. Also, check and see if the skidsteer has an electric high perssure fuel pump (unlikely) as the fuel injectors will need fuel pressure to operate.

Sorta my thoughts too. If we end up keeping tbi I was going to use an inline pump that I found that will give 15 psi the 2.2 is speced at 14.5 so I figuree that would work ok. My buddy just keeps thinking there is a way becasue others are saying it is possible but cant seem to give any specifics on it LMAO. I said I doubted it. I am thinking there was lebarons with carb setups Id have to find one and compare what he has to see if that is an option. I told him I would help him to the best of my abbility but I just cant see any way of making injection work without a computer and there really isnt enuff room in there for anything else LOL. So I figureed if someone knew of a away id listen worst case scenario a couple hours wasted and a fried tbi or distributor which will b tossed once carbed.

older model S-10's had the 2.2L (82/83? - 97) I'm not sure if it will fit in the chrysler motor, but I vaguely remember both makes were the same engine...You can see if the distributor from the S-10 will work for your setup...As far as running the coil off the injector pulse, for one the injectors need a signal source (ECU) and two, pulling that much load from injector pulses will fry the injector and/or the source

I will have to take a look, thanks for the idea on the S10 didnt even think of them I will have to keep it in mind. He isnt worried about getting it running till spring just trying to get some ideas figureed the more heads thinking about it the better. Thanks, James

it shouldn't be too hard to mount up a computer, now for just putting back together the harness

True but the only place that would be semi protected from the elments is the engine compartment which is rather cramped. Without some sort of heat sink to cool it I am sorta thinking that it would probally have a meltdown. still an option I am just tring to figuree out which way to go  I say just get the right motor and put it back stock but that isnt as cheap as rigging.
