I have a 90 ranger 2.9 2x4 auto, and a 87 bronco 2 2.9 manual 4x4.
the broncos rear end i think is toast :pissedoff: (rig only moves when 4 wheel drive is engaged) could i use the rear end off my ranger for the bronco?

you could use it but if I am not mistaken the axle is narrower than the b2 axle try to find an axle out of an explorer it is bit wider than the bronco axle

oh

alright ill give that a try...so frustrating i just bought it too.
well any hoot thank you kindly im off to the yard.

You make want to check the rear driveshaft, the cv style ones like to go out easily, and don't make much noise either...(in my experience)

That could be why only 4 wheel works, seems more likely than the rear diff going out..

i didn't think of that

im gunna go see if that may be it right now..
thank you very much.

hot damn

well yesterday i had my brother in-law put it in gear. the frickin drive shaft is spinning loose in the cv! so i got the part on order. thank ya!

Standard failure mode for RZeppa CV Bronco II shafts. It occurs when the shaft is overextended or overcompressed; it pulls apart and pounds the spring and circlip into the next millenium.

The fix is to check the LENGTH; these are ridiculously short shafts, and any adjustment in rear ride height can change it, especially if you've been playing with pinion angle. As a rule of thumb, if you need to pry the driveshaft in or out, you have a problem.
