I have a 90 ranger 2.3 liter that runs okay until recently. On my way to work the truck quit on me twice. I think it's an idle issue. Rpms are at 1000 at idle. What could be the issue? Iac valve? Temp sending unit is not the correct one either. Could that be causing idle problems?

The temp sender for the gauge? If yes then no not the issue.

Temp sender that feeds coolant temp info to the ECM? Then yes that could very well be the issue.

More then likely its the IAC if it runs ok besides idleing.

That's right, there is two temp sensors. Well, thank you for confirming the iac. But what I don't get is it has run just fine since then. Even at idle. Just rpms are at 1000 at idle. It is a 32 year old truck after all. Lol.

High idle is usually a vacuum leak or something with the IAC

Thank you for the information. I will change both parts and see if there is an improvement.
