90 ranger 2.3 2nd gear problem

I bought a 90 ranger 2.3 5 speed a couple of months ago. The last few days it has been hard to shift into second when I first start it up. Within a couple minutes of driving it then goes into second just fine. Today I drained the transmission and it had gear oil in it. I thought ranger manual transmissions used ATF.

If it's the M5OD, it should have ATF in it...

Gear oil is too thick.

Truck shifts fine now that I put ATF in it.
