Hey guys! Been a while since I've posted, or even owned an RBV, but I'm starting a new project soon enough...
So far I've picked up a set of stainless JBA headers for a 2.9 with y-pipe, an M50D, a 1354M, a 3.73 Dana 35, a matching drum brake Exploder 8.8, front and rear Exploder springs, and 2 spare 2.9s.
I'm currently in the process of trying to sell off some other parts I had from another project to buy a clutch for my '89 Escort. After that's good to go I'm gonna start looking for another standard cab long bed.
My overall goal is to end up with a truck that sits about 2.5-3.5" taller than stock with some trimming to clear new 33s (possibly 34/10.5 LTBs???). The Explorer springs and 1-1.5" body lift will easily do that. I've got a set of BALD 33s on 15" half-ton Ford pattern alloys that I'm trading for a set of 5 matching soft 8s in the Ranger pattern next week. This isn't gonna end up being a crawler or anything, just a truck my daughter and I can cruise the desert with in the summer and play in the snow in the winter.
I'm REALLY thinking that I ought to run at least 4.88s in the axles, which I've got limited slip carriers that'll fit both axles. Hell, I could pack em up with clutches and get a little more budget traction...
A foot cut out of the bed should lighten it up a little and help it on the drops, I've still got my old B2 fuel tank I could put out back to eliminate the driveshaft rub my last Ranger had, as well as pick up some capacity for longer trips, and I've got some old 2"X2" 0.25" wall tube I could build sliders with...
Currently I'm at a build cost of $0 with some horse trading and good 'ol bartering.
Don't forget, I still don't even have a truck yet.
I've got 90% of everything and 100% of nothing, YET...
