im considering buying a wrecked 90-92 5.0 5 speed mustang for a new motor for my truck. Has anyone else run into problems using there stock t case? with the right motor mounts and t case adapter will the shifter be in the right place? these are a couple concerns I have, maybe other people have tryed and run into problems. the motor is going into a 92 ext cab

I'm not sure of the transfer case situation, but I probably wouldn't bet on the shifter being in the right place. If you are using the tranny from the mustang, the shifter will be moved towards the seat another 7 inches or so. I am doing the same thing for the same model of ranger(same year too). But the difference is, I'm a 2wd street truck sleeper type, and it seems your going towards the 4wd.

See the motor in the avatar? OH, YEAH:headbang::headbang:

I would like to offer assistance for your build, but I am not knowledged in the 4WD world. Someone here must know something though.

do you want to use the t-5 from the mustang or the stock transmisson?

I want to use the T-5. I thought the whole reason for getting AA motor mounts and the tailhousing is so the trans would be in the right spot

The Advance Adapter for the T-5 4x4 hasen't been available for about four years now. They might still have the middle part but they ran out of the Jeep tail shafts that were good for the swap. About the only option is to use the trans out of a F-150.

There has to be a way to use a T5 with my transfer case I dont wanna buy an extra transmission on top of buying a whole parts car. plus I want the 17% overdrive. Is there another company besides advance adapters?

advance was the only company i knew of who made one. have you just tried a simple google search yet? you might get lucky that way

Theres nothing on google, only factory parts for it. maybe someone on here bought the kit and never used it, the chances of them reading this are pretty low, maybe ill post a wanted ad

I know it's been about four years now since they (AA) quit with the adapters. I think I must have gotten one of the last ones. They appoligized for sending a good but used Jeep tailshaft with the conversion, said they couldn't get any new ones anymore. Know of no one else that made them. Maybe E-Bay and take your chances, good luck.

Anything is possible, the only thing is how far are you willing to go? Maybe you can take some measurements of the t-case and the t-5 transmission bolt holes and try to come up with a machined plate with the t-5 and the t-case holes drilled in it. Then see if the shaft is long enough and that it will fit.

I don't know, thats what I came up with in 10 minutes.

Well, dug up this picture of what it looks like. AA made them so that you could even use your stock length drive shafts.

why is it called a jeep tail housing, do certain jeep trannys have them?

Jeeps in the mid '80's used to use the T-5's. I've got the instruction manual somewhere stuck away in some file, somewhere.

Somewhere out there, there has to be one of those adapters or a jeep adapter that someone is going to look at and say:

"I'm not even going to use this, I think I'll sell it on ebay."

If you can't find it the first time, don't fret. New things pop up on ebay all the time, and also on Craig's List. Who knows, you might get lucky..............

But on a side note, the other good option, depending on what you will use the truck for, is to obtain a 4-speed tranny from an F-150. Many of the old timers called them "Rock Crushers" Because they can take a pounding without failing. But it's not highway friendly, bad MPG.

Don't give up.
