Will my 1990 B2 driveshaft bolt up to a Explorer 8.8 flange? The Explorer 8.8 write up in the tech section hints that 1990 and later Rangers bolt up to the 8.8. Is this true? This is my first RBV and this site has been SUPER helpful. :yahoo: Thanks all.

Not real sure, but it MIGHT be possible on the late-'90 BII models (post 11/'89 production), but definitely not on earlier '90 BIIs.

However I'd get rid of that POS dual-CV stock driveshaft for one with real u-joints at the same time.

Ya know that's a good point. I really just want a small lifted 4x4 to get me to the ski slopes in the winter, moderate offroading, etc but there is so much if you wanna do it right. The way I see it is what's the point of doing anything if you're just gonna compromise and not get what you want in the end? What's the best driveshaft option I got? Looks like I got some more readin' to do. :icon_thumby:

Cheapest (what I did on mine) would be to go get a FRONT driveshaft from any '91-'97 Ranger or '91-'94 Explorer, and shorten the tube on it to fit the rear of your BII (a driveline shop can do this if you don't have the means to do it). You'll need to get the t-case output yoke, along with a rear driveshaft flange to fit the 8.8 pinion flange. I would guess around $100-150 when all is said & done if you have a shop do it.

There are companies that specifically make driveshafts to replace that dual-CV thing too, though some are not double-cardan shafts (having a double u-joint at the t-case). Be sure to get a double-cardan shaft if you plan to lift it at all (won't vibrate near as much as a single-cardan shaft).

...I really need to find a donor vehicle. No way the JY would let me pull that stuff while not paying for whole T case and rear DS...

Thanks mang. That pretty sums up my confusion regarding which direction to go in.
