in the research I have done, a 1990 ranger, regular cab, v-6, 5 speed, 4x4 should have the BW1354m (manual/mechanical) transfer case, correct?

I have a '93 supercab 4x4 A4LD auto trans, BW1354 Electric shift t-case. I want to swap out my electric t-case for the manual one (1354).

so, assuming the '90 ranger has the bw1354m, would there be any difference in the linkage because it is a 5-speed trans and I have the A4LD auto. (I am only interested in swapping in a 1354m, NOT a 1350.)

I will be looking at the '90 ranger which is at a local scrap yard, sometime this week, hopefully.

(I searched the forum and couldn't come up with a definite answer for 5-speed to A4LD transfer case swap issues)

thanks in advance,
tom

The A4LD and the M5OD use the same T-case linkage.

Don't know about all year models but the a4ld linkage I have does not fit my m5od, seious clearance issues had to find a linkage from behind a 5 speed.

I don't know why. I converted a 13-54 from auto to manual using 13-50 internals (we called it a 13-52) and swapped it into a '93 using an A4LD shifter.

fwiw - I looked at the truck in the first post that I thought had a manual transfer case. it turns out it was a 5-speed with the electric (push button) transfer case. I was bummed.

Is that documented somewhere? I'd REALLY like to read about it....

Yes, it's very well documented... In my head. It takes very careful measurements, holes in the case have to be reamed to exact tolerances for seals, part of the case needs to be machined down, the shift arm has to be custom made. It's not very hard to figure out if you have a 13-54e and a 13-50m both in pieces in front of you.

Wow, that's extreme. I've gotta ask, WHY?

Why not?

My buddy gave me a 13-54e and 2 13-50m cases and said "see what you can do with them". So I built him a "13-52m" and we put it in his '93 Ranger... That was at least 5-6 years ago and he sold it after he moved to Michigan and its still running around out there.

hmm thats pretty cool! not sure what years/configurations are different honestly. I have an unknown year manual shifter stamped A4ld on the side that bolts to the Tcase fine but hits the transmission case going towards 2hi. Also have an unknown year (dont you love junkyard finds?) shifter stamped 5 speed whose mount holes don't quite match up with the bosses on the Tcase but does not have clearance issues with the tranny. I'm working on a bastardized combination of the two now to get something to work.
