Ihave an 89 ranger about to drive me crazy it will run just fine but will sometimes die going down the road I think I have narrowed it down to dropping power to the coil is there a relay or sensor that could be causing this

Get the TFI or ignition module checked.....could be other things but this is the main suspect

The ignition module is brand new but I have had new parts that are bad.It did it again last night but started this morning almost like something heating up and shutting down but cooling off and is fine

heating up and shutting down, but being fine when it cools off is classic TFI-death syndrome.

Yea thats what Im leaning toward but the TFI is new in the tech section I think I may find some ohms tests

Yes here is the link

Although it is much less time consuming to have it checked at your local auto store....most stores test for free...just test multiple times, no less than 3x

Just because it is new...won't necessarily mean it is good, I Had one that didn't make 50 miles....think I had read here or somewhere else that others had them bad out of the box...Sounds like you already experienced some of that.

double check those grounds...they can really mess with this kind of thing

I will let you know how I make out this weekend THANKS

Well I went through my wiring and found a couple things I thought may have been the problem tested the tfi 5 times and it tested fine I took it out for a drive Sunday for a hour straight ran great thought it was fixed brought it home cleaned it up and went to start it to move it and guess what!!!!!! NO START With the ignition on checked voltage to the tfi and coil it was good then I heard a click like a relay kicked in and it started right up any suggestions HELP!!!!!!!!!

yeap I'd replace the relay....located on the passenger side fender. they can give the same symptoms as a bad TFI
