Lets start with that I picked up this ranger that had been sitting for a few years and from everything I've seen it appears to be just an unmolested 2.3 5spd truck.

Here is a list of things that I've done
New plugs and wires
New fuel pump, filter, and fresh gas
Used dis module (had it tested, good)
tried 2 different ecms
reset cam timing

Things that I've found
starts on its own but runs rough, barely moves under its own power
tach doesn't work/ seems like none of the gauges work
tried pulling codes but the code reader just beeps and never gives codes

I'm stumped cause I've never messed with a dis car/truck and the fact that I can't pull codes and I've tried a few different ecms with no luck. I'm lost, can you guys help?

I just finished stripping an 88' ranger

2.3L that had set for at least 2 years. The fuel lines, HP Pump, and filters were really gummed up with very smelly varnished fuel residue. I would suspect you could do with a good injector cleaning as well..it may take some running to completely get rid of the mess from sitting for a while.. hang in there...as to the electrical isssues...keep checking your connections...grounds etc...you'll get it back to order

pull the fuel injectors, there are lille filter baskets in the back of them, they may be crudded up. new baskes can be had from NAPA for less than $1 each

any way to check if its good besides it throwing a code? any other way to diagnose a bad crank sensor?
