When i crank up my ranger, there is this pining noise, after it idles for a while the noise fades ALITTLE then comes right back!! Is there any one who knows what this is or that can give some advice???:dunno:

same problem

rangers (especially 80's to early 90's) had problems with the lifters. if the oil gets dirty they will tick, you could repair the lifters, i just decided to take the opportunity to swap in a 4.0 from a 92, as i discovered that the oil pump was only sending 22 pounds of pressure adding to the lifter tick. if you can address it early do. i ran my 2.9 a bit too long and ended up blowing the head gasket right after one of my rods bent. i wish you luck.

right before your next oil change drain a quart of oil out and replace it with a quart of atf. run the engine for 15-20 minutes. atf has detergents in it that engine oil doesnt so if something is clogged up the atf MAY remove it. if not then your probably looking and a bigger problem.
