hey yall .. this is my first post to the forum here and but been a reader for a while for fixit help. any way here is my dilemma . Im in south east Minnesota i have an 89 ranger 4 cyl 4x4 with a 7 foot bed and by drive shaft shat out on me a few days ago. ive called every salvage yard in 100 miles of me to no avail the yolk on the transfer case is shot as is the u joint the yolk on the drive shaft end where it meets the drive shaft has some wear on it but its not totally gone. I only spent 300 on the truck and it has served me well and im not ready to give up on it yet. can any one point me in the direction of somewhere anywhere where i can get a new drive shaft or at least the correct transfer case yolk so i can eek a few more miles out of it until i find a new shaft. im cruising very lightly in front wheel drive mode right now but i dont want to keep that up for to long. any help is appreciate. thanks every body

How much damage are we looking at here? Driveshaft flew off at high speed and is completely destroyed? Or u-joints blew out and the new caps just spin in the yoke due to wear?

If it's just wear and you're sure you have the right u-joint I just use a center punch around the inside of the yoke and peen the metal out with little dimples

If you wind up in the woods on this one and need a custom driveshaft--Look to see if a company called "Fleet Pride" is in your area. They do custom drive shafts and have a large number of parts on hand usually.

Bronco graveyard can probably sell you a new one for a pretty good price but probably about a week to ship

any Idea what it would cost to ship a driveshaft? I have one from an 88 longbed I am not using.
