Hey guys I haven't been on here since I rolled my ranger but was wondering if i could get some help with my F-250.

1989 F-250 4x4, with 460 V8, XLT lariat

So over the summer i was using the A/C on max then it all of a sudden started making weird noises like i broke something in the compressor. So i stopped using the A/C for the rest of the summer.

Now whenever I use the heater the compressor makes bad noises too. My friend borrowed my truck once and had the heater on and it overheated on him. (don't know what that was about)

So i figure i need to replace the a/c compressor, but don't really need it since I live in Montana. I was wondering if i could just take the belt off going to the compressor, so I wouldn't have to replace it. Or would I have to buy a smaller belt and just bypass the A/C compressor?

Thanks for the help,
DC

Try unplugging the compressor clutch.

Sweet I unplugged the compresser and now the noise is gone.. is it bad to keep a bad compressor on there? Im worried about breaking the belt or something.

Thanks

Nope, its the same as not turning the AC on. It wont hurt a thing unless the clutch goes bad.

Well i guess the clutch is bad on it cause after the truck is warmed up the compressor gets really hot... then i can smell burning rubber. So i am just wondering what my options are for replacing it, or bypassing it.

Also... is the a/c compressor an easy swap out to do @ home?

Thanks
DC

There is no easy way to do the compressor at home. You have to get the system evaced so it doesn't blow off when you open the line.
