Hi. I have recently purchased a Bronco 2. Vehicle starts and runs at a slight rough idle. I have changed the fuel pump ( OEM ), fuel filter, tps, map sensor, fuel pressure regulator, fuel injector idle air control valve. When i give it gas it will only reach 1500 rpms and will go no more. I have not checked compression, nor timing at this point, appears to have all new wires and plugs. Kind of stuck at this point on finding out the issue.

Pull codes.

Check timing (10-12* BTDC)

Doubtful its compression, but if other things check out check it, im guessing either ignition timing or a jumped timing chain.

When I test drove the Focus that I eventually bought, at first it wouldn't rev AT ALL. As it warmed up, it did start to rev, but didn't seem to sort itself out until it was fully warmed up. I told the dealership I wanted it, BUT, I expected them to fix it before I bought it. When they called me to tell me it was ready, I asked what the problem had been. The timing belt had jumped a tooth, they said.

My money is on timing. More importantly, that the timing chain (or belt) has jumped a tooth or two.

also make sure the plug wires are on in the correct order, the cylinder numbering is VASTLY different than what a GM engine would be for example... don't know if the engine would run being that screwed up, but would be worth a look... in other words I'm in the general timing umbrella like the fellers above me...
