Depends, on a stock height vehicle, the answer is probably. Lifted, maybe not, depends on pinion/t-case output angles. They had double cardan shafts from the factory in some cases at stock height so removing one joint from that equation can in some cases max out u-joint operating angles, but not always.
My bronco is still at factory height, 235 15's are my tires, looking at the drive shaft as I'm laying on the ground, it looks like it has a pretty good angle between the tc and the rear end, I'm having trouble locating a double cardon shaft but I've found a new, single one for an affordable price, I'm just trying to see if anyone else has gone through this and how it turned out for them, as far as reliability, vibration, and any other change out issues, thanks for responses or advice
Yep, I agree with WildBill.......I replaced a CV drive shaft with the single u-joint one and it works fine. RockAuto has them for a very reasonable price.
Thanks for the reply, I did order the single, been driving it for almost a month and it's doing great, no vibration, no cv popping, wish I would have changed it years ago, lol
For anyone for a future reference, when I can find them, I swap out the factory CVJ mess for the earlier regular UJ shafts from a 1984 or 1985 B2. I never had a probem while using P235/75r/15 tires. Plus, I get to grease them along with the shaft during regular P.M.
